In today's turbulent times across borders and territories, Sudipta Das' work achieves crucial relevance. The unending voyages of the dispossessed across cultural and political boundaries in human history serve as a vast backdrop for Sudipta's artistic pursuit. It enables the artist to redraw her own identity as a fourth generation Bangladeshi migrant in India. The linear and monolithic narratives of mainstream historical accounts are questioned largely in our time, and the need of accommodating multiple voices is being discussed extensively. This is the context where Sudipta finds the possibilities of using images from various sources to construct a more dynamic and organic pictorial space in order to make personal chronicles of past and present.
