Suchitra Uttam is a Bengali paly that revolves around the life of Chitra and Pranotosh. Chitra wanted to be a famous actress like Suchitra Sen and converted her name to same as her screen idol. Chitra left her house willingly to put a mark of love to her beloved lover, Pranotosh and subsequently married him.

Chitra wanted to be a famous actress like Suchitra Sen and to fulfill her strong desire, she always tried to imitate this legendary actress. She even converted her name by affidavit from Chitra Sengupta to Suchitra Sen with a view to place herself into the ambiance of Suchitra Sen. For this, she faced several criticisms from different corners. But still she kept her efforts on for blooming into an eminent actress. Unfortunately, happiness left her within a short period of her marriage and she separated from her husband and started to live alone.

In a dreamy state of mind, both Pranotosh and Chitra feel the presence of Suchitra and Uttom Kumar at their respective places, who in turn guide them to find the new way to achieve the goals of life. Both the minds rejoin together again for a bright hope.
