The Significance of Mahashivratri | Indiaeve

Mahashivratri is one of the most significant festivals of India, which is also known as “the Great Night of Lord Shiva”. This event is totally dedicated to Lord Shiva which is celebrated on the 13th night/14th day in the Krishna Paksha every year on the month of Falgun according to the Hindu calendar.

On this occasion remembering Shiva and chanting prayers, fasting, and meditating on ethics and virtues such as self-restraint, honesty, non-injury to others, forgiveness are main highlights of this festival. The main significance of other Hindu festivals is which celebrated at night.

It is the darkest night of the year, here celebrating the grace of Adi Guru who is considered as the First Guru from the yogic tradition originates. On this occasion, the devotees offering fruits, leaves, sweets and milk to Lord Shiva, others perform all-day fasting with Vedic, and some perform meditative Yoga. They stay awake the whole night.  In Shiva temples, the sacred mantra of Shiva, "Om Namah Shivaya", is chanted throughout the day.  As per Hindu Mythology, Shivaratri brings positivity, removing all the negative feelings and thoughts that create conflicts in your mind, giving happiness, growth and prosperity!
